The London-based artist CJ Calanday s a fresh 18 years old and has accomplished what most people twice her age can only dream of: she's a modern-day role model.
The Filipino creative was just listed one of the “inspirational teenagers you should follow on Instagram” by the Evening Standard, and posts on her main account at @ceej.jpg. But her second feed, @chaariz, is where she stashes all her colorful creations. The digital doodler (as described in her Instagram bio) has worked on some serious pieces, both personal and commissioned. One example of the latter is a drawing she made of Sylvia Rivera, the Latina transgender activist who played a major role in the Stonewall Riots, for Facebook’s London office in celebration of Pride.
When she’s not on Instagram, Calanday is a contributor for Risen Zine. An online magazine managed by teens as woke as she is, Risen Zine has provided a safe space for young people to share thoughts on politics, current events and identity.
We'll be looking out for this one.
