It's all cosmo-retro vibes.
Daring girl on a bike, a splash of color, a midwestern desert backdrop, Aaliyah-inspired steez: color us intrigued. The Abuja-based creative duo Phugo schools us on desert-biker chic with their latest edit.
Made up of the beauty artist Phoebe Ben-Kalio and stylist extraordinaire Ugonna Nwaka, Phugo spotlights the pretend character Electro, a cool-girl rodeo-biker, in its new editorial.
An urbane girl, true to her African roots (as symbolized by her choice of coiffure - Bantu knots), Electro's thrill-seeking personality lands her in the Nigerian desert, in search of a new adventure. According to the duo:
"She is a cosmopolitan girl, who is well cultured but still maintains her African root. She is free-spirited, adventurous and daring hence the use of bikes and bold colors."
Photographed in Wuse, central Abuja, Electro channels the late R&B crooner Aaliyah with a dash-cool, laid-back, retro offhandedness: a halter-neck crop, purposefully displaced fanny, light-tinted sunnies and all.
As for the editing process, editor, Amy Limore, says her instinctive inspiration was drawn from pop fiction narratives like the Charlotte Rutherford Desert Cowgirl campaign for Skinny Dip London.
The four-image debut effort from creative doublet has our minds reeling in anticipation of their next body of work.
