It was 26 years ago when hip-hop duo Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth released their debut LP Mecca and the Soul Brother. The record has been lauded as one of the best hip-hop albums of all time. It also contains their most popular track “T.R.O.Y.” that Stereogum claims to be “one of the most perfect rap songs ever created.”

It must be not easy to remix something so perfect, but Amerigo Gazaway is up for the challenge.

To celebrate the 26th anniversary of the record, the DJ, emcee and producer has put his remixing prowess to use and reworked some of the songs in the album, including the aforementioned “T.R.O.Y.”

“Had to go back and flip several of my favorite Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth joints for the 26th anniversary of their debut LP Mecca and The Soul Brother,” he says.

Offering a new take on the iconic tracks, Amerigo Gazaway's remixes serve not only as a tribute, but also as a fresh way to introduce Pete Rock, one of the most productive hip-hop producers, to the new generation.
