Just a few days ago, 21 photographers were announced as the winners of National Geographic's 2017 Travel Photography of the Year competition.

Nature (in its most beautiful and terrible states) and cities (whether in gray or full color) are the real stars here. How appropriately representative of the sweet contradictions of some of our favorite spots in Asia. 

From a serene temple in Bali to the hypnotizing concrete jungle of Hong Kong and a vibrant, order-in-chaos kind of market in Bangkok, browse through the award-winning images below.
