Magaajyia Silberfeld is a name you ought to know. And it's no wonder that at 22, Magaajyia is already a film writer, director, producer and actor, all in her own right.
The French-Nigerien artist directed her first film at the age of 18. After training at the Conservatoire Municipal de Paris, she studied philosophy at the Sorbonne and attended the Playhouse West Repertory Theatre School. Since then she's directed a string of movies including Vagabonds (2016) and Ride or die (2015) and just landed her first feature film debut Zin’naariya! (The Wedding Ring), directed by her mother, Rahmatou Keita.
Along with expanding excellence in her metier of choice, the Paris-born Silberfeld is a bonafide globetrotter. As a youngling she became a bird of passage, visiting Greece, London, Amsterdam and more and til date remains an explorer (check her Instagram for confirmation).
Silberfeld says she draws inspiration from a few strong successful women, including: Sojourner Truth, Rosa Parks, Angela Davis, Bjork, Kate Winslet and Judy Greer. Watch out for two projects from her this year - a short film and a movie series.
