Part of this year’s Miami Art Week, Art Africa will run from December 5 to 9. The event will be held in the historic Overtown, where, during segregation, black performers would stay after performing for white audiences on the Miami Beach.
This year’s program promises to be meatier than ever, so head to the event’s website for more info!
From the organizer:
Art Africa Miami is a unique curated fair platform that showcases visual works from the best emerging and established artists from Africa and its diaspora.
Exploring issues around black reality and social transformation, the fair offers the opportunity for collectors to meet and buy directly from the artists.
Established in 2011, Art Africa's inaugural exhibition set a precedent as the largest showcase of contemporary artists from the African Diaspora during the week of Art Basel Miami and continues its trajectory each year with a larger showcase in Historic Overtown.
"Art has always been a tool to claim space, build power and question the injustices that have shaped our social experiences." Neil Hall, Founder. In the world of art and culture, artists offer the viewer a chance to challenge society by bringing new meaning to the way we perceive the world."
Art Africa Miami brings a vital and essential cultural service to the South Florida community, lending the Magic City a true international flair.
